Have Fun & Be Ethically Conscious at Markets in Kyoto
In May, you can spend a pleasant time outside and one of the best ways to enjoy yourself is to explore flea markets in the City – you will enjoy the unexpected discovery of antiques, handmade sweets and accessories, all kinds of new and old items, and meeting nice people! Among the many markets held in Kyoto, KVG would like to introduce two where people with goodwill who consider the environment and sustainability gather.
Kiyomizu Temple is one of the symbols of the ancient capital of Kyoto, and a must-see that most tourists from Japan and abroad visit. 1000Market is held every month at this 1200-year -old World Heritage temple. The market is part of the “OKAGESAN” project initiated by Rev. Shoin Onishi, the Secretary-General assistant of Kiyomizu Temple.
“OKAGESAN is a group that will create and develop various activities from the Kiyomizu area in Kyoto with the aim of creating the future by connecting the ‘authentic spirits’ who respect and review old customs while identifying what is truly important to live today. We believe that the circle of goodwill is essential for sustainability in this day and age,” says Rev. Onishi.
